- 1% povidone-iodine concentrated solution
- Broad spectrum antiseptic properties*
- Use as a throat and mouth disinfectant
Povidone–iodine is traditionally used as a disinfectant for the skin. In lower concentrations, however, povidone-iodine solutions can be used as an antiseptic for the oral cavity. *
Povidone (or PVP) is a water-soluble polymer. When combined with elemental iodine, the complex possesses disinfectant properties. The World Health Organization recognizes the effectiveness and safety of povidone-iodine’s supportive health properties and has included it on the WHO’s List of Essential Medicines.
Povidone-iodine works by releasing iodine which weakens and kills a range or microorganisms. This makes povidone-iodine solutions great for sore throats and minor cuts or scrapes in the mouth caused by dental procedures or accidental injuries. It can also be used to kill the germs that cause bad breath.*
